When life gives you lemons, what do you do with them? Over here at The Squeeze—we talk about it—"it" being our mental health and well being. Host Taylor Lautner's (no, not that guy, but she is married to that guy) introduction to mental health was at a young age, witnessing friends and family suffer in ways she couldn't fully understand. She started a nursing career in the peak of the pandemic and has been struggling with her own mental health ever since. Tay is joined co-host, husband Taylor Lautner, in addition to celebrity and expert guests to further the conversation surrounding mental wellness. At the end of the day, we're all pretty similar; even those living in the lime-est of lights can be weighed down by sour lemons. This week the Lautners are joined by dancer and choreographer Allison Holker! Allison talks about her audition process for So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD) and what drew her to her late husband, Stephen "tWitch" Boss. She openly shares how Stephen's ability to give so much love and life to everyone around him ultimately took a toll on his well-being, then talks about the subtle signs that indicated he was struggling with his mental health. Allison and the Taylors discuss the large stigma that continues to surround men's mental health and stress the importance of going to therapy, even when you may feel like everything “feels fine”. Allison explains how she has navigated grief as an individual and as a parent while being in the public eye, then offers heartfelt advice for other parents with kids who are grieving. Finally, Allison talks about her relationship with dance now, her favorite form of self-care, and what she has learned from her children over the years. Amy begins by walking us through the history of her friendship with Charlie, then uncovers how she came to the horrifying realization that he was murdering hundreds of his own patients. She recounts working with authorities to bring Charlie to justice, then goes into how her mental health suffered while navigating the grief and betrayal she felt from her best friend. Amy shares how five different hospitals turned a blind eye to Charlie's crimes, exposing the systemic failures that allowed these crimes to occur. She then opens up about her ongoing healing journey, utilizing tools such as energy healing, holistic modalities, quantum jumping, meditation, labyrinths, and hypnosis. Calling all big-word fans, this one’s for you! A neuroscientist and actress from a little show you may have heard of…The Big Bang Theory’s Mayim Bialik joins the Lautners to discuss her journey with mental health, both in and out of the spotlight. She explains her thesis dissertation, which, (grab a dictionary), was: "Hypothalamic regulation in relation to maladaptive, obsessive-compulsive, affiliative and satiety behaviors in Prader–Willi syndrome". She then dives into her early career as a teen actor and her home life surrounded by mental illness and addiction. She and Taylor bond over being Enneagram 4s, before she highlights two key tools that have helped her mental health: identifying food triggers and somatic work. Lastly, the Lautners ask her for advice on continued success in the mental health podcast space, as she’s hosted her popular podcast, Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown, since 2021.
